  • Produce and maintain technical documents relating to manufacturing of OMAX abrasive waterjet equipment, products, and accessories, performing at a high rate of quality and productivity
  • Research and understand OMAX abrasive waterjet products by studying available literature and interviewing engineers, etc.
  • Observe production, assembly, and/or training activities to determine assembly procedure and detail
  • Support product assembly using SolidWorks 3D CAD assemblies, guidance from the Product Designer, and experience from the Production Assembler to represent manufacturing in documenting the assembly process as well as any design issues
  • Communicate any need for support in safety concerns, assembly tooling development, or project conflict requiring management and project manager involvement
  • Submit draft documents for management and product engineering review, addressing and resolving all issues noted
  • Update released documents based upon product changes and any feedback from OMAX distributors, customers and OMAX personnel
  • Proof and edit various documents/files as directed per specified criteria
  • Participate in instructional document validation
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Leadership in the development and maintenance of the document management structure (SPI 500213), including the process of authority approval and document links to the parts and assemblies
  • Investigate production assembly issues to verify adherence to the procedure and design issues requiring clear communication to Product Engineering
  • Support in training of production to standard procedures
  • Assignment and labeling of tooling part numbers when missing, including archiving of existing CAD files
  • Training and mentoring of other technical writers in manufacturing to the standard processes
  • Support in design reviews for ergonomics and cycle time
  • Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by the department manager or supervisor



  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a technical writer in manufacturing industries
  • Four-year degree in applicable field or equivalent experience is preferred
  • Ability to work directly with the product equipment, hardware, and components to advance technical understanding quickly and effectively
  • Strong mechanical background/aptitude required
  • Strong English language skills including grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Strong editing skills to assure compliance to style guides and other writing guidelines
  • Excellent writing skills with ability to quickly grasp audience needs and translate overly technical information into accurate and easily understood descriptions and procedures
  • Ability to convey thoughts, ideas, procedures with more graphics, less text
  • Ability to easily create and modify image files
  • Strong interviewing and listening skills
  • Ability to work quickly and independently with minimum supervision to successfully meet scheduling and quality requirements
  • Ability to coordinate information with engineers and other subject matter experts to ensure documentation is accurate and current
  • Strong attention to detail and readability
  • Ability to produce technical documentation in multiple formats including, but not limited to PDF, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to develop publication-ready documents
  • Ability to open SolidWorks 3D CAD assemblies, and identify the parts and location required to support development of assembly procedures.
  • Experience using SolidWorks Composer is a plus
